Hon. Lester Michael Henry, CD

Minister

Ministry of Transport & Works

Kingston, Jamaica

Greetings Minister Henry,

Re: The Bob Marley Highway

I am pleased to see you are living up to your campaign promises on the issue of traffic improvements. There are far too many individual traffic situations needing attention to enumerate them all, but I would like to draw your attention to a particular highway. The North Coast Highway from the roundabout at the Sangster International Airport to Cruise Ship Terminal in St. Ann to be name the:

Bob Marley Highway.

We know if you allow us to present our proposal to parliament for approval, it will be a:

  1. Fantastic attraction on the developing Tourism Corridor, St. James, Trelawny and St. Ann
  2. Marketing opportunity for all Jamaicans living along the Bob Marley Highway to market "Made in Jamaica" Products
  3. Improve our bed and breakfast accommodation in all communities along the highway
  4. Allow for Bob Marley Fans to walk or drive slowly along their idol highway
  5. Marathons like the Reggae Marathon can be staged monthly for more attraction for visitors to come to Jamaica thus improving the standard of life for all residence living and doing business along the Bob Marley Highway

We are positive that you and the kind Members of Parliament will see it as a good for the Jamaican people and so we look forward to your quick response as we plan to do a motorcade along the along the highway on February 6th 2009 to celebrate the Bob Marley Highway

One love
Ras Astor Black

In 2008, the Smile Jamaica and Africa Unite concert experiences united for a memorable event, and Smile Jamaica took a break in 2009. For the 2010 installment, Smile Jamaica returns to the cool hills for an unforgettable concert within walking distance of the Reggae Iconxs final resting place.

Part proceeds from the concert will go to the Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment U.R.G.E. Foundation and the Ghetto Youth Foundation, the charitable arm of Ghetto Youths International founded by Bob Marley's offspring. The foundation provides support for schools and reading programmes in St. Ann and Kingston. The organization has also provided assistance to hospitals and clinics to benefit children of lesser means and greater need.

Members of the Marley family are expected to deliver performances along with a cadre of top reggae, dancehall and international performers. Ghetto Youths will release the lineup and other key details in early 2010.

The concert will be a signature event during Bob Marley Week and Reggae Month and enjoys the support of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) and the Jamaica Culture and Development Commission (JCDC). Bob Marley's birthday, Saturday February 6, 2010 Jamaica, is the date for the concert at Nine Miles, St. Ann
